Hello, this is the void calling.
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard you scream.
Is everything ok out there?
I don’t know.
It’s hard to say, really.
We’ve become our own voids.
Our screams are all internal now.
Resistance is useless.
Resistance is futile.
No.
Resistance is beautiful.
Resistance is strength
Resistance is power
Resistance is life.
We must not allow ourselves to become hollow.
We must not allow ourselves to be so drained that we become empty.
No matter how sweet or how soft that darkness seems, we must not give in to the void.
Numbness is not comfortable. It is lonely and cold and merely leaves us defenseless against the continuing onslaught of daily horrors that seem to await us each new morning.
If we don’t fight back they will swallow us whole.
We must have joy. We must have whimsy. We must have hope and laughter and light and beauty and love and all the things that make our heart pump and our breath catch.
We must wake every day and choose to be alive, to get out of bed and stand ten toes down on our commitment to our personal worlds and the greater world at large.
And so we must fill the void.
Don’t try to do it all at once. It will seem impossible.
Take it slowly. Add one small pebble at a time. Let the pile grow.
It’s ok if it takes time.
It’s the process that keeps us going, not the final result.
Eventually it will balance out.
And if not, well, we will at least have had fun trying.
